Holy = Consecrated – Sanctified – Set Apart. Holiness is a wonderful way of life – living in a state of being, while looking forward to one’s eternal life in indescribable perfection.
Holy (Kadosh in Hebrew), means: ‘Set apart from the world, dedicated or consecrated to GOD, living a sin-free life, separated from the world and its ways, set apart for sacred use and purpose.’
To be sanctified means to be holy, set apart for holy purpose, doing all the things that are pleasing to GOD, being available for HIS purposes, including honouring, and exalting HIM, and being loyal, obedient, and faithful. One is sanctified by ongoing spiritual growth.
The opposite to being holy is to be apathetic, rejecting, uncommitted.
Justification is the action of declaring, or making just, or righteous, in the sight of GOD. One is justified in GOD’s eyes by believing in and following Christ.
Isaiah 6:1-4 ‘In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him were seraphim (angels,) each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is HE LORD Almighty; the whole Earth is full of HIS glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.’
1 Peter 1:14-16 ‘As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as HE who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy.’
1 Peter 2:9-10 ‘But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to GOD, that you may declare the praises of HIM who called you out of darkness into HIS wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of GOD; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.’
Hebrews 12:14 ‘Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of GOD and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.’
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, GOD’s holiness transforms us and ‘sets us apart’ from this world and all its compromise and evil.
Heaven can only accept perfection; so people can only be seen by GOD to be of purity, dignity, GOD-ly-ness, and sin-free and holy through Jesus when He is the Lord of our life.
Revelation 4:8 ‘Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord GOD Almighty, WHO was, and is, and is to come.”
