GOD appointed Adam and Eve as having dominion over HIS creation. Dominion does not mean to dictate, abuse, or exploit; it means to have control and to rule, which GOD would have meant to be in a loving, caretaking, overseeing way.
We should have been fulfilling that role from day one, but now that we are realizing that things are just not right, and are suffering, we have relatively few people trying to save threatened animal and plant species, and to clean up the planet, while the vast majority are still living in careless ways that just use, exploit, and degrade the planet.
By all means do what is right for the world, but relationship with GOD guarantees future perfection.
GOD wants human beings to come into relationship with HIM, so that each individual is saved for the new heaven and new earth which HE will be creating, where everything will be restored to original perfection.
Human beings cannot bring back extinct species of animals, birds, insects, and plants. GOD will restore everything in the new creation. With sin gone forever, every form of life will be beneficial to everything and everyone else. There will not be any poisonous or dangerous species, there will not be any meat eating, so no species will need to kill any other species for food.
Everything will be truly magnificent, beyond description, in GOD’s future new creation.
