Miracles of Jesus

(Please also see ‘Miracles of GOD’)

Seek the Truth with all your heart.

Jesus carried out many miracles of different kinds, healing many conditions, restoring sight, hearing, and sanity, by casting out demons.

He had complete insight into people’s lives; He knew their background history, He knew their thoughts.

The following are the recorded Miracles of Jesus.  Miracles to us, but not to Jesus.

A miracle is defined as a phenomenal or supernatural event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers, and usually cannot be explained by the laws of nature. GOD never operates in ways that are contrary to HIS WORD, or to the laws of nature, which HE has established, but HE has the right and ability to supersede them, beyond the limits of our understanding.

However Jesus’ miracles were distinctive. They were signs and mighty works which authenticated His divinity and His mission. People had heard the stories of the miracles of GOD, and His awesome and astonishing power, but the miracles of Jesus created unique and strong responses.

Acts 10:38  “GOD anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for GOD was with Him.”

A few of the many responses were:

Mark 2:12b  ‘This amazed everyone, and they praised GOD, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”

Mark 5:42b  ‘At this they were completely astonished.’

Mark 6:51b  ‘They were completely amazed.’

Mark 7:37a  ‘People were overwhelmed with amazement.’

Luke 4:14-19  ‘Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised Him.

He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written:

The Spirit of the LORD is on Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’

(Jesus ‘just happened’ to be handed the scroll where it had been written by Isaiah the prophet, hundreds of years previously, about Him; and there He was reading these words to the people about Himself; thus fulfilling the prophesy.)

Luke 4:29-30  ‘They got up, drove Him (Jesus) out of the town, and took Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw Him off the cliff. But He walked right through the crowd and went on His way.’

(Jesus had supernatural protection by way of the GOD-given enabling to walk through His enemies; thus over-riding human limitations.)

John 20:30-31  “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book (The Bible).  But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of GOD, and that by believing you may have life (eternal) in His Name.”

Jesus’ miracles.
1. Calming the storm.     Matthew 8:23-27;  Mark 4:37-41;  Luke 8:22-25.

2. Feeding 5,000 men and all those with them.

Matthew 14:14-21;  Mark 6:30-44;  Luke 9:10-17;  John 6:1-14.

3. Feeding 4,000 plus all those with them.     Matthew 15:32-39;  Mark 8:1-9.

4. Fish with a coin in its mouth.     Matthew 17:24-27
In this amazing miracle, Jesus did not even say which part of the lake (the Sea of Galilee) to go to, or to even put bait on the hook.

5. Fig tree withers.     Matthew 21:18-22;  Mark 11:12-14, 20-25.

6. Huge catch of fish.     Luke 5:4-11;  John 21:1-11.

7. Water into wine.     John 2:1-11.  Verse 11
‘This was the first of His miraculous signs. It was carried out at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His Glory, and the disciples put their faith in Him.’

8. Walking on water.     Matthew 14:22-36.   Mark 6:45-56.   John 6:16-24.

John 6:16-21 ‘When evening came, His disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.

When they had rowed three or three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened.  But He said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.”  Then they were willing to take Him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.’

This covers two wonderful miracles: one of walking on water, and then the boat immediately reaching their destination.

Jesus healed many people.
